A six month effort, Ecotone is a confluence of live studio, field recording, one-off instruments, and euro rack format modular synthesizers. Terrex, Catspaws, and Amber were recorded live in one take while others like Bento Battle and Bouthatmuch were laid down as stand alone works that were "DJ'd" live after the fact, the end product being the live manipulated version rather than the original. Still others were born out of machines and devices purpose built for the piece itself. The Ecotone is literally the overlap and relation of adjacent biodiverse systems, offered here in auditory terms as the expressions of what lies between the accepted points of recognition and the unknown.
